What better way to top off last months postcard story extravaganza than a fabulous postcard giveaway!

Now that my readers know everything there is to know about collecting postcards , I’m here to reward the most diligent and humorous among you! I will be awarding not one, not two, but three fabulous prizes with a combined value of $13.99!!!!!

PRIZES!!!!!!

First Prize: pre- World War II real photo postcards (3) views of Paris!

Second Prize: 1906-1929 (2) views of Baristaville, Montclair, New Jersey

Third Prize: 1908 View of Public Library Columbus, Ohio

Entering is simple-answer the question concerning the prize you want to win by posting on the discussion board at the end of this story. In a moment, the questions, but first the boring but required rules and regulations.

RULES!!!!!!

  1. Employees of Suite101 and Baristanet.com are not eligible to win. Nor are any of my relatives no matter how left out that makes you feel.
  2. Winning responses will be selected by an impartial panel of judges, (probably my writers group). They don’t care who wins, as long as they get some wine and maybe cocktail nuts. Judges decisions are final!
  3. Contest winners will be announced April First, and just because it’s April Fools Day, do not think for one minute that this is not a serious event.
  4. I will pay shipping for prizes, maybe even insurance, so don’t blame me if your prize arrives mangled or not at all. Winners are responsible for any and all tax liabilities.

QUESTIONS:

For First Prize Paris Real Photo Postcards (3!!!!!!!!!) What was the eBay price for a real photo postcard of a 76 Gas Station on Route 66 in California?

Second Prize (2!!!!!!!!) views of Montclair, NJ A real photo postcard of what Glen Ridge Street was mentioned in the story?

Third Prize 1908 View of Columbus, Ohio Main Library This card has a divided back. To what year span can it be dated?

Win some or all of these fabulous prizes! Post today!

Ginny :
I found your story through Baristanet. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Ginny

Here's my entry for the contest ....
QUESTION: A real photo postcard of what Glen Ridge Street was mentioned in the story?
ANSWER: Hamilton Road

A resident of Montclair for 15 years, I started a postcard collection of the township and continue to look for views I don't have. Naturally, I also like to buy nostalgia cards from my hometown and other places visited. Arcadia Publishing offers great paperbacks of postcard history images. These books are good for reference and a nice way to supplement your collection.

Susan Cramer :
Thanks, Ginny! I don't collect postcards, but I DO have a framed New Jersey tea towel hanging in my kitchen. Grew up in Bergenfield. I took some heat for both my "research" and conclusions. I am shocked to discover that any Barista reader doesn't recognize irony. . . Clearly, you do. Anyway, thanks for entering!

Ginny :
Hi Susan,
Just checking back on your discussion board, and I'm totally amazed that no one else has yet entered this contest.

Since competition is nonexistent, I feel compelled to share more of my knowledge of postcards, enjoyably acquired from your articles. I would feel like a fool not to enter again. You can count on me to check back on April 1 to see how I fared.

Here are my entries for 1st and 3rd places ...
QUESTION 1: What was the eBay price for a real photo postcard of a 76 Gas Station on Route 66 in California?
ANSWER: $113.61

QUESTION 3: This card has a divided back. To what year span can it be dated?
ANSWER: 1907 - 1915, also referred to as the Divided Back Era.

Thank you,
Ginny
