The Tales of Beedle the Bard
In mid-December, J.K. Rowling made it possible for some needy children to have a merry Christmas. Her hand written and illustrated book,
The Tales of Beedle the Bard sold at auction earlier this month for $4 million.
Children’s Voice Charity
The proceeds will benefit
Children’s Voice, whose aim, Rowling says on her website, . . “is to stamp out cruelty, neglect, and abuse of young people. The Children’s High Level Group (CHLG) is a charity whose mission is to improve the well-being, health, and protection of vulnerable children.”
The organization was founded in 2005 by Rowling and MEP Emma Nicholson, a member of Britain’s House of Lords. At present, they serve the needs of children from Eastern Europe, but hope to expand to help children world-wide.
From the Library of Hermione Granger
First mentioned in
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,
The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a collection of wizarding fairy tales purportedly left to Hermione Granger in the will of Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore.
This copy of
The Tales of Beedle the Bard was one of only seven, the others having been presented as gifts to people closely connected to the Harry Potter collection. The leather bound volume with silver mounts which far exceeded the original pre-sale estimate of $100,000, was written after Rowling finished the seventh and final Harry Potter book.
