Guernsey’s Auction House has some of Michael Jackson’s stuff, and he wants it back. The Associated Press reported that Jackson is attempting to block the proposed auction of his own and Jackson Five memorabilia form the mid1960’s and the early 1990’s.
The auction is scheduled for May 30-31st at The Hard Rock Hotel Resort in Las Vegas, and reportedly will include 1000-2000 Jackson family items. According to Guernsey’s President, Arlan Ettinger, the Jackson sale will compare to the 1999 auction of Elvis Presley/Graceland memorabilia, “It certainly is in that sphere of landmark, high-profile, extraordinary auctions.” Ettinger has not released pre-sale estimates.
Some of the items to be auctioned include Jackson’s gold record for Thriller, the handwritten lyrics for ABC, the aviator shades he wore in Bad . Also included are bits of costumes worn by Randy, Janet, and Marlon, and a test pressing 45 of the 1969 Jackson Five hit, I Want You Back.
The disputed collection was part of a settlement in a bankruptcy.. Michael and Janet sued for possession in 2006, but the claim was thrown out. For now, the items can be previewed at Guernsey’s in New York.
