We're all collectors here at the Cramer house. Some are more active in the pursuit than others, but our house is filled with the evidence of our individual passions. My husband, although no longer an active collector, owns at least 500 albums from years of working for record companies and radio stations. My son loves history and candy, so he collects lead soldiers and Pez dispensers. My collections include pottery, buttons, trinket boxes, World's Fair Memorabilia, Statue of Liberty souvenirs, art deco chrome, and first editions signed by favorite writers. My daughter collects jewelry, although I'm not sure it's a collection so much as a craving.
I also collect bits and pieces of costumes. I don't consider myself a costume collector, but I am powerless to resist that brocade doublet or straw boater whenever I find them. Granted that isn't often, but that's fine because how many doublets do you actually need? My kids always had the best dress up clothes of anyone on the block, and now that my son has taken up acting, I find I am able to come to the rescue with great frequency. Need a rhinestone trimmed Fez, an old fashioned nurse's cap, a fringed vest or a marabou trimmed cloak? I'm on it, purely by accident!
