Fall Festivals Embrace Twentieth Century Art and Antiques

Sanford Smith returns to the Park Avenue Armory with the ART20 and Modernism shows. These shows are the best places to find pieces representing twentieth century art.

Although Sanford Smith & Associates no longer produces the Fall Antiques Show, arts enthusiasts, antiques dealers and collectors alike can search for paintings, sculpture, photographs, drawings and more at the ART20 show in New York City from Nov. 7-10, 2008. Representing the best of the era from 1900 through today, more than 60 exhibitors from the United States and Europe will be present at the Park Avenue Armory, 643 Park Avenue, between 66th and 67th streets in New York City. Hours for the show are: Fri., Nov. 7, noon-8 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 8, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 9, noon-7 p.m.; and Mon., Nov. 10, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission to the show is $20.

The exhibitors attending the ART20 Show include: Peter Fetterman Gallery (Santa Monica, Calif.), who will display fine art photography, Conner Rosenkranz (New York City), who will provide examples of American sculpture, and Babcock Galleries (New York City, who) will treat attendees to American art of the early twentieth century as well as select contemporary masters.

For those who are interested in the design movements of the twentieth century, be sure to attend the Modernism: A Century of Style and Design show in New York City from Nov. 14-17. More than 70 international dealers will display rare and fine arts items ranging from furniture and textiles to glass and silver. Periods represented at this show include Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Post Modern, and art from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Hours for the show are: Fri., Nov. 14, noon-8 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 15, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 16, noon-7 p.m.; and Mon., Nov. 17, 11 a.m. -5 p.m. The show will be held at the Park Avenue Armory, 643 Park Avenue, between 66th and 67 streets in New York City. Admission is $20.

Exhibitors and dealers attending this show include: Aero (Finland) will showcase examples of vintage Finnish design, John Alexander (Philadelphia, Pa.) will display fine furniture and decorative arts in the British Arts and Crafts style, and the Staley-Wise Gallery (New York City) will touch on a collection of fashion photography, Hollywood portraits, landscape and still-life images.

A preview event for the ART20 show will be held on Thurs., Nov. 6 from 6-9 p.m. Proceeds from tickets sold for the ART20 preview event and gala will go to Planned Parenthood Federation of America. A preview event for the Modernism show will be held on Thurs., Nov. 13 from 5-9 p.m. Proceeds from ticket sales for this show will benefit the decorative arts collection at the Brooklyn Museum.
